Information

What is an international school?

An international school provides a curriculum distinct from the host country’s national system, welcoming students of all nationalities. Many apply globally recognized standards and undergo international accreditations, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), and primarily use English as the medium of instruction in addition to other languages to cater to their multicultural student body.

In Japan, reputable international schools are often recognized locally as educational organizations and child care centers such as ninkagai hoikuen (Japanese kanji) and accredited by external bodies such as IB PYP to ensure global standards. What is the school’s education philosophy?

Our school believes that global skills, character and resilience developed through a play based and inquiry based curriculum are essential learning outcomes for each child to successfully achieve their personal goals within a rapidly changing world. What age groups does the kindergarten accept?

We accept children from ages 1 ½ year to & 6 years. We also offer a baby clubs and AAC clubs for the elementary. You can learn more about this information on School Life page.

What are the school hours?

Our regular school hours are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Check the schedule details for more information on Admission Process page.

Is there extended care available?

We offer extended care only for emergency requests. For more information on fees and registration, please visit our Admission Handbook page.

What are the school holidays days?

In general, there are no classes on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Only a few special events may be held on Saturdays. (Please visit the Annual Academic Calendar in our Academic page more information.) During spring, summer, and winter breaks, optional daycare is available.

How do I apply for admission?

Is there an enrollment deadline?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but we recommend applying by semester.

What are the application fees and tuition costs?

Is there a uniform at Aiwin?

Aiwin students are required to wear uniforms. The uniform is included in the enrollment package and must be purchased upon admission.please refer to our  Admission Handbook Page.

Are there any discounts available?

We offer sibling discounts and semester basis payment.

How do I schedule a visit?

You can book a school tour by filling out the School Tour Appointment Form.

Is it necessary for both parents to attend the interview?

It is necessary for both parents to attend. Participation online is also possible.

Is English proficiency required for parents?

English proficiency is not required for parents. However, we encourage parents to build an understanding and be open to communicating in English as the primary language of communication and instruction within the school community.

Is English proficiency mandatory for children?

Depending on the age at the time of enrollment, English level assessments may be required as part of the Interview process. Students enrolling for Early Nursery and Nursery classes are not required to show English proficiency. For students entering the Inquiry Learning Program from Preschool levels, basic English communication abilities will be assessed, such as greetings, understanding of basic instructions, etc. We offer more information about Class Placement Criteria at our Admissions page.

How long does the admissions process take place?

From the moment you get in touch with us, our admissions process can, in most cases, take 3 to 4  weeks. Timings do vary, though, as each family’s application journey is different. Please visit our Admissions page for more information about admissions process.

Curriculum

& Activities

What curriculum does the school follow?

Our curriculum is built on internationally recognized frameworks such as US Head Start, UK EYFS, and the IB PYP, offering a transformative and balanced program for students aged 1.5 to 5 years. Our approach emphasizes play-based and inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and holistic development to nurture caring, confident and globally minded lifelong learners. Please visit our Curriculum page to learn more about Aiwin’s unique curriculum.

What is Phonological Awareness?

Our Phonological Awareness program is a core part of Aiwin International School's curriculum, designed to build strong foundations in listening, sound recognition, and letter-sound relationships. It is closely connected to the Orton-Gillingham approach, a research-based method known for its effectiveness in supporting language development, particularly for students with diverse learning needs.  Please visit our Learning Program page , you will learn more detailed information on this program.

What extracurricular activities are offered?

We offer a wide range of activities such as music, dance, sports, and art or Long course program. Details can be found on our Special Program page.

Is there a focus on outdoor play and physical activity?

We emphasize daily outdoor play, in our school playgrounds, and our weekly routine incorporates visits to a nearby park for outdoor activities and extended learning. In addition, we offer a Physical Education class once a week, taught by a licensed PE teacher for all classes. We also host an annual Sports Day as one of our key school events.

Is there a Japanese language class?

We offer 20 minutes of Japanese language time daily for Early Nursery and Nursery classes, and 30 minutes for Preschool, Junior Kindy, and Kindy classes. In addition to introducing kanji education to develop reading comprehension, students also learn hiragana, katakana, basic numeracy and about Japanese culture. We provide 15 minutes of Japanese lesson daily for Early Nursery and Nursery classes and 30 minutes for Preschool, Junior Kindy, and Kindy classes. Through the Ishisiki program,( 石井式。 We introduce kanji to enhance reading comprehension, along with teaching hiragana, katakana, and aspects of Japanese culture.

Do students participate in field trips and expeditions outside of school?

School field trips are arranged for students enrolled from Preschool levels. All field trips are arranged as part of the curriculum’s Inquiry Learning Program. Some field trips may be arranged with parent participation.

What are the academic results like?

Our combination of academic rigour, authentic assessment, personalised support, and unique global experiences – delivered in a caring community – sees our students achieve remarkable success in different areas of interest and learning. For the past years, students have demonstrated excellent English proficiency results in Cambridge English Assessment Exams. Our graduates have successfully entered Primary Schools of their choice. What is the teacher-to-student ratio?

Our average teacher-to-student ratio is 1:6 for EN and N classes, ensuring each child receives personalized attention. For upper classes, including Pre, Junior Kindy, and Kindy, the ratio ranges from 1:12-15 (depending on student’s development and learning needs. )

What qualifications do the teachers have?

We value diversity in our teachers' educational backgrounds and professional experience. Our teachers are certified in early childhood education, with many having years of experience working with young learners. You can learn more about our team on our Faculty page.

How does the school ensure teacher quality and retention?

We prioritize teacher quality and retention through a comprehensive approach that includes ongoing professional development, a supportive work environment, and a commitment to work-life balance. Our teachers are carefully selected based on their qualifications, experience, and alignment with our educational philosophy.

Where are most of the teachers from?

Our team of teachers come from diverse backgrounds, allowing us to take an international approach to education. In this multicultural environment, students can learn while being exposed to different cultures, helping them develop a global perspective and flexible thinking skills.

Facilities

& Safety

What are the school’s safety measures?

We prioritize safety with secure entrances, regular drills, and trained staff on-site. The low student-teacher ratio ensures personalized care and allows for prompt response in the event of accidents.Additionally, we undergo annual inspections by City Hall to maintain our status as a Ninkagai Hoikuen.

Is there a nurse or first-aid professional on site?

We provide regular training for our staff in first aid and emergency care. The school also maintains the manuals required by each municipality to uphold local standards in health and safety as an authorized Ninkagai Hoikuen. 

Do you provide school lunch? Are they allergy-friendly?

We provide healthy and balanced school lunches that cater to allergy requirements. Parents are encouraged to review the school lunch menu before placing their orders

Is there a school bus?

We do not operate a school bus service. We ask parents to use public transportation or personal vehicles for drop-off and pick-up. Some campuses have their own parking facilities. Please contact each campus directly for information on parking availability and use.

Communication

with Parents

How do you keep parents updated about their child’s progress?

Information and updates about school, class and each student are available through several of our online communication platforms making it easier for parents to support their child’s learning journey. Formal Parent-Teacher Conferences are also arranged throughout the school year to celebrate each child’s success and plan for future learning. How do you handle parent-teacher communication?
