This month we learned about...

Theme: My Family & I

The nursery class learned about the basic unit of family and what consist a typical family. We also learned about their relationship with them and how they're connected to their family. We also discussed about the different ways to call their parents and their siblings names.

Monthly Questions:

What makes a family? Who do I call my family?
What makes families different?
Where did your family come from?
What are traditions in my family?

Phonological Awareness

This month we focused on learning several nursery songs that helps them greatly to get familiar with words we commonly use. We are started learning about phonemes of /b/d/f and tried to learn new vocabularies that starts with those letters. Nursery class are also getting used to blending sounds to form simple CVC words that they’re familiar with

Arts & Craft

Mother's Day Card
We used pre cut construction papers in a shape of a jar and had the kids stamp it using yellow paint with their fingers and let it dry to make it look like fireflies inside of the jar and added details and message for their mothers.

Paper Cup Frog
They painted a paper cup using green paint and let it dry so they can add more details to it by putting yellow circles all over it. Then they added googly eyes and stick some pre cut constructions papers from the inside of the cup to form the limbs.

Mandala Art ( India / Arts Week )

By using paper plate we decorated it with wooden fork and color it using brightly colored crayons and they put sticker in a pattern for it to look like the one in our diagram.

Salt Rangoli Art ( India / Arts Week )

First, kids are asked what thing they want the teacher to draw on the construction paper using glue. Then the kids are asked to scoop salt using their hands on top of the glue once its a little bit dry the kids are given the opportunity to choose a colored water to drop on the glued salt as the final process and we let it dry.

Cooking Class

This month during the first week we explored the banana using our basic senses. So each kid was asked to smell, touch and touch it. We also learned that there are different kids of bananas and not only the one we see usually so kids get aware of it. We also learned about the nutrition we get on the banana according to its ripeness.

While on the second week we had a very nutritious snack by making a banana yogurt skewer wherein kids participated in making by putting it on a stick, dipping it into the yogurt and sprinkling it with rice crispies.

Japanese Class

During this class they are getting familiar with their names written in kanji and also learning some basic kanji characters by doing recitations along with their japanese teacher. This month japanese book too is about a teddy bear with its body parts. They also get to take part in making craft for events like koinoburi.

Music Class

They learn music notes according to colors as the first part of their class followed by singing different kinds of nursery rhymes in english and japanese and was given different musical instruments such as maracas and bells to use while singing along in the music.

PE Class

During their physical education class they are given more challenging obstacles course in where kids are expected to do more balancing activities. More jumping course but more importantly following the rules given by their PE teacher. Kids are more engaged during this class as they enjoy being part of doing something that really enhances their gross motor skills.

Next month we are going to learn about...

Theme: My Friends and Neighbors

Children explore their relationship with other kids their age such as their friends and neighbors or classmates.

We will cover the following questions:

What are good qualities of a friend?
What makes me and my friend different from each other?
What are the places in my neighborhood? Who are the different people helping our community?
What kind of community helper to do I want to be?

Goals: 
Some kids are expected to start toilet training and be more confident in doing things without their teachers help.
