Toyonaka | School Blog | Science Week 2023

We had a fantastic Science Week that was both enjoyable and educational for its students. The week was centered around the theme of sustainable development goals and provided opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration.

The week started off with a series of experiments in different classes. The EN class did a dyeing cloth experiment, where they learned about color mixing and the properties of different materials. The N class explored the power of air with their balloon rocket experiment, while the Pre class experimented with the chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda. The JK class explored the magic of science with their color-changing flower experiment.

On Tuesday, the learning continued with different experiments in each class. The EN class did a filter experiment to learn about the filtration process, while the N class built balloon-powered boats to learn about propulsion. The Pre class continued to explore chemical reactions with their vinegar and baking soda experiment, and the JK class built light mazes to learn about light and shadows.

Wednesday was a special day for our school, as a representative from an animal shelter brought her dog, Blondie, to visit the school. This was a great opportunity for the students to learn about animal care and pet safety, and they loved spending time with Blondie.

Thursday was Scientist Day, where students dressed up as famous scientists or scientific concepts, and had the opportunity to learn about the work of these scientists and the impact they have had on our world.

To end the week, the students watched a broadcast of science experiments conducted by researchers from a university at Mikuni Campus. The week was rounded off with a visit to the science museum, where their class experiments were displayed and they could see their work on display for all to see. The science poster making contest, based on the theme of sustainable development goals, was also a great way for the students to apply their learning and express their creativity.

In conclusion, our Science Week was a wonderful experience for all its students. Through hands-on learning and exploration, the students gained a deeper understanding of science and the sustainable development goals. They also had the opportunity to express their creativity and engage with their peers, making it a memorable week that they will cherish for years to come
